The Apache tribe of Native Americans flourished in Arizona. They were feared for their aggression, yet admired for their bravery. They lived by raiding and killing peaceful farmers, including other Indian tribes and Spanish settlers.
They were contained to reservations by the U.S. Army, which captured their last major leader Geronimo.
The U.S. AH-64 helicopter is named after them, as is the Apache web server (really a pun on "a patchy").
