Keith Andre Butler, Sr. (born 1956) is an American minister and politician. He the first black Republican ever elected to the Detroit City Council, serving from 1989 to 1994.
Butler was born in Detroit, Michigan. He and his wife Deborah L. Butler graduated from Rhema Bible Training Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1978. They founded Word of Faith International Christian Center in 1979. He became a Republican in 1982 and campaigned in Michigan for Republican presidential nominees.
He served as the first Republican Detroit City councilman since World War II from 1989 to 1994. Butler sought the 2006 Republican nomination for U.S. Senate, garnering 40% of the vote but losing to Mike Bouchard.[1] The Democratic incumbent Debbie Stabenow eventually won. Butler replaced Chuck Yob as a Michigan representative for the Republican National Committee in 2008. He serves on the Executive Board of Christians United for Israel. Two of their children and children's spouses also work in their ministry. The other works for the Republican National Committee.
In 2008, Butler founded a Texas ministry, Word of Faith Christian Center in Round Rock.
