The Isle of Arran is an island in the Firth of Clyde off the West coast of Scotland.
Brodick is the main ferry port where CalMac ferries sail to Ardrossan, Ayrshire. Lochranza, in the North-West of the island, has a smaller ferry which sails to Claonaig, Kintyre in the summer and to Tarbert, also Kintyre, in the winter.
Tourism is the main source of income. Other industries include agriculture and the production of whisky, beer, toiletries, crafts and many other small cottage industries.
The harshness of living on the island is the theme of "Man of Aran" (1934) a famous documentary film by Robert J. Flaherty.
