Christian Nation is a notion among some Fundamentalists that the U.S. was founded as a "Christian Nation", but lost its way and should be restored. The notion has become a favorite attack theme by liberals and secularists, who warn that the right plans to impose Christianity on America.
The "Christian Nation" theme is not mainstream conservatism. President Ronald Reagan rejected the notion. For example he wrote Norman Lear in 1984 he was "not aware of any 'Christian Nation movement' and I certainly do not support the notion."[1]
Mainstream conservatives usually speak in terms of Judeo-Christian ethics and values.
