The Tomb of the Patriarchs is the second most sacred site in Judaism.
The tomb building was constructed by Herod in the first century BC on top of a series of caves. The cave of Machpelah are believed to be the burial place of Jacob, Isaac and Abraham and their wives.
The site is located at Hebron in the West Bank of Israel.
Biblical Evidence
"Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave on the plot of land at Machpelah to the east of Mamre, which is Hebron, in Canaan." (Genesis 23:19)
"And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre,"(Genesis 25:9)
