Bushido is the Samurai code of honor. It is named after the Bushi or Buke, a class of warriors in Japan who were not nobles but who nevertheless held an honorable position.
It was a way of life for the them, more than just a code. Bushido had several points that it greatly stressed:
- Loyalty
- Self sacrifice
- Justice
- Sense of shame
- Refined manners
- Purity
- Modesty
- Frugality
- Martial spirit
- Honor
- Affection
Note than many of these same values are reflected in chivalry.
The Bushido and their honorable way of life thrived until the late 1800's.
