Because, Scorpion, there was never sufficient evidence to convict him or anyone else of bombings claimed by the Weather Underground.

I think you should reconsider. The article linked states exactly what the edit suggests (the liberal media, including the NYT, has whitewashed their relationship) and the evidence that Obama is unwilling to discuss Ayers is strong. But did the Russians spend money on those WU freaks? I know, that large parts of the GFR/West German New Left received cash from the GDR and that the German terrorists (both the Berlin June2nd and the RAF) did from some point in time have good connections to the East German Stasi, but I cannot yet see the various Japanese Red Armies or even the Black Panthers getting hugh sums of Russian cash.
