Broadway is the name of a street passing through almost the entire length of Manhattan, New York City, known for its concentration of theaters; hence, 'Broadway' is a term used to describe popular (and especially musical) theater in New York and the United States, in much the same way the 'Wall Street' is used as a synonym for the U.S. financial sector.
