A magnificent church built in the fourth century in Constantinople during the reign of Justinian. It was originally an early Catholic Church, but was later converted to an Orthodox church after the great schism of 1054. After the Ottoman conquest of the city it was converted to a mosque. Today the Hagia Sophia is a museum.
