Big Labor refers to the most powerful national labor unions, such as the SEIU, AFL-CIO and the various teachers' unions, which are increasingly recognized as a major cause of economic problems and job losses. The term Big Labor does not generally encompass trade (electrician, carpentry) unions nor local police, firefighter, or corrections officer unions.
