A role model is a person who serves as a model in a particular behavioral or social role for another person to emulate.
Some people have different ideas of what constitutes as a role model and when their examples should be followed, but the general agreement is that a role model is someone who is kind, decent, honest and wise. The ultimate role model is Jesus, whose example is followed to this very day. Jesus is the ultimate role model because he was without sin. Some people believe different standards are to be followed when choosing a role model, but most people try to take after Christ to some degree.
Dick Van Dyke said, "When I was a teenager, I modelled myself after the way Fred Astaire or Cary Grant dressed. Now kids emulate street gangs. They like to dress like hoods. That's just a reversal. They're picking the wrong role models."
