The expression "to eat humble pie" means to admit an error and apologize, showing contrition. It is an idiom that originally referred to a literal pie called an umble pie, umble being an old word for offal. A phrase with a similar meaning is "to eat crow".[1]
Humble Pie was the name of a rock band active in the 1970s, whose members included Steve Marriott and Peter Frampton. Their most successful album was 1972's Smokin' .[2]
