Blue shift is an astronomical term used to describe the apparent increase in frequency that an observer detects due to relative motion between the source and the observer, such that the two are getting closer together.[1] The effect causes objects to appear "bluer" when viewed in the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, giving the name. Redshifting describes the opposite effect where objects moving away from the observer appear redder.
