William Martin "Billy" Joel is an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. He was born in the Bronx, New York in 1949.[1] His music takes from aspects of rock and roll, pop, and jazz as well as many bands of the 1950s. He is an atheist.[2]
He began his solo record career in 1971 with the album Cold Spring Harbor, and his 1973 album Piano Man (along with the titular song) was the first to achieve major success. However, the two albums he released after that, Streetlife Serenade, and Turnstiles, failed to be successful. In 1977, Joel had released his first major breakthrough album titled The Stranger, which had hits such as Movin’ Out(Anthony’s Song), Just The Way You Are, and Scenes From An Italian Restaurant. He continued to have Top 10 hits and the 80s and 90s, and according to Columbia, he has sold over 100 million records worldwide.[3] Most recently, he released a single titled All My Life in 2007.
