Clonezilla is a free, open source partition and hard disk (HDD)/SSD imaging program. It allows individuals and companies to make complete disk images of individual computers or a large quantity of servers, depending on the kind of software selected. These images are useful for a variety of purposes. The most common uses are backups in case of failure and deployment of identical systems across multiple devices, such as when a server cluster is being created.[1] Clonezilla was developed by the National Center for High-Performance Computing software labs in Taiwan.[2]
Features
- Supports many drive formats:
- An "unattended mode" is offered in which most steps can be completed using command-line commands and switches.[1]
- Only saves used memory blocks on the drive/partition[3]
- AES-256 encryption is available for data access, storage, and transfer.[1]
Requirements
- X86 or x86-64 processor[1]
- 196 MB of RAM[1]
- A boot device, such as a CD/DVD Drive, USB port, PXE, or hard drive[1]
- A partition to write to or read from
