American slavery and Christianity
The history of American slavery is sorely lacking in this page, and I feel like it should be explored, both for the sake of K-12 students needing a trustworthy source of information, and to explain how slavery in America was justified through a mix of racism and the perversion of Christianity.  The source of racism is somewhat obvious- African blacks were less technologically advanced (assumed to be dumber) and more war-like (because of limited resources), leading Southern whites to believe blacks were inferior humans and that slavery was a better arrangement for them.  I believe the perversion of Christianity aspect needs some serious discussion.  Slave-owners twisted our religion by simultaneously willfully misinterpreting passages from the Old Testament and completely ignoring the New Covenant whenever it was convenient for them.  Most other sources on the topic of slavery are liberal and summarize to "white people hated black people because the Bible told them to".  This site needs to set the record straight.--Pious (talk) 02:37, 23 August 2016 (EDT)

:Such information would certainly help!  Just one thing that often bugs me, a major factor as to why Africans were often slaves is that they were sold by other African tribes as such.  I don't believe Europeans started out by saying, "Hey, these people are less advanced than us and their skin is a funny color--let's make them slaves!" Rather, conquering  African tribes would sell the conquered tribesmen as slaves to other Africans.  As human mobility increased (through shipping), slaves began being sold to other people, including Europeans.  This more than anything else led to the racism of many, seeing Africans as lesser, since they were slaves.  I think most people get the order of this backwards, and forget that their own neighbors started this abominable practice.

:Anyway, after that little rant, do you think you could add the information you mentioned? --<font color="ForestGreen">David B</font> <small>(TALK)</small> 08:44, 23 August 2016 (EDT)
