For better or worse, populism is where the GOP base is (Blue collar working class people especially). And they are not going to vote for the Trump-Lite candidate DeSantis as long as Trump is a viable candidate. Because why have Trump lite when you can have Trump. DeSantis is funded by the business/establishment part/class of the GOP. And Nikky Haley is too much of a neocon for the GOP base which is sick of America's forever wars.

I know you are going to come back that DeSantis is more of a family man and religious man, but unfortunately people like that don't win elections now ([[Rick Santorum]]'s and [[Mike Huckabee]]'s presidential candidicies failed). But this could change as religious people are having more kids than nonreligious/irreligious people and there is a growing backlash against the liberalism taught in public schools and universities. America's Christian conservatives are getting their way on the federal level of government by sneaking conservative Christian policies in through the back door by putting pressure on predidential candidates and presidents to appoint conservative judges such as the SCOTUS court. While this approach turned over Roe vs. Wade, the same SCOTUS court approved homosexual "marriages".
