Interpersonal relations relates to developing and maintaining effective relationships with others.[1] Part of interpersonal relations involves the ability to relate well to people from varied backgrounds and in different contexts..[2] Interpersonal relations involves: understanding others; showing courtesy others; being tactful, and showing empathy, concern, and politeness..[3]
Hildegard Peplau's Theory of Interpersonal Relations in nurse-patient relationships
In the the field of nurseology, Hildegard Peplau's Theory of Interpersonal Relations emphasizes the nurse-patient relationship as the bedrock of nursing practice and it outlines four key phases (orientation, identification, exploitation, and resolution). In addition, it highlights the importance of the nurse's role as a therapeutic agent.[4]
