Jules Verne (Nantes 1828 - Amiens 1905) was a French science-fiction author and a pioneer of that literary genre. His most popular books include:

- The Tribulations of a Chinese in China
- From the Earth to the Moon
Verne wrote about machines similar to submarines and airplanes in his books before those machines were invented.
