The Works Progress Administration (WPA) was created by Executive Order in 1935 by President Franklin Rosevelt as part of the New Deal effort to continue relief efforts during the Great Depression. The program was wracked with croniism and favoritism and is regarded by many as a waste of effort which may have actually worked to prolong the Great Depression.[1]
