Amongst the most elite – the Nobel Laureates and the U. S. Academy of Sciences – the percent of Atheists is the highest, around 93%, “committed to the life of the mind”.[10] Biet-Hallahmi, author of “Atheism, A Psychological Profile”, in “The Cambridge Companion to Atheism”, wrote, “…what these individuals [the most elite] had, in addition to their creativity and high intelligence, was a strong wish to create distance between themselves and their parents.”[1] Vitz has also stated other common factors he observed in the leading atheists he profiled: they were all intelligent and arrogant.[2]

Most students have to navigate these decisions without any spiritual direction or encouragement. The campus ministry targets university students, because it is the decision making time of life: the small window of time where individuals are open to changing their ideas, beliefs and perceptions of the world. This is why roughly 90% of all Christians made their decision for Christ before they reached the age of 21. http://www.campusforchrist.org/about/whycampus.php

Atheists and attacking critics as being stupid and/or crazy

Vox Day:

"Now, it is certainly true that I rub the oft-demonstrated fact of my superior intelligence in the face of my critics, for the reason I have often explained. Both the political Left and the militant atheists regularly resort to the logical fallacy of appealing to the authority of intelligence; in fact, atheists even utilize it in a bizarre and illogical argument against the existence of God. My overt assertion and subsequent demonstration of an even higher degree of intelligence than most of them can muster thereby removes one of their favorite intellectual weapons from their arsenal and tends to make them look foolish when they attempt to use it to dismiss me in the manner that they dismiss so many others they attack.

This is why you will often see them theorizing that I must be crazy, because they are so attached to their logical fallacy that they literally cannot grasp that someone can be more intelligent than they are and nevertheless reject their left-liberal ideology or their godless scientism... even though it has been statistically demonstrated that there are more high IQ theists than atheists. IQ-flaunting is a useful rhetorical device that trumps a common rhetorical argument, nothing more. And it is obviously an effective one, as most of my critics eventually get around to complaining about it sooner or later."[7]

New Religious Survey

I saw this survey, which was released today, being spun by the mainstream media. I think it supports some of the things you've been writing about--specifically that people are spinning "unchurched" into atheists. This survey indicates that a mere 3% of people are atheist as opposed to the 20% who answered "no religion".

I thought you might like to have the link and survey, in case you hadn't seen it and wanted to use it to update some of the pages. http://eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2013-03/uoc--aar031213.php Best, WilliamWB 12:50, 13 March 2013 (EDT)

non religious and Domestic violence

Fergusson et al. (1986) - non-religious New Zealanders experienced higher rates of domestic violence than their religious counterparts

Ellison and Anderson (2001) - regular church-attenders - lower rates of domestic violence than non church-attenders

"Another line of thought suggests that religious people may be less likely to perpe- trate domestic violence (Fergusson, Horwood, Kershaw, & Shannon, 1986). A 1999 study of U.S. couples found that both men and women who attend religious services regularly are less likely to commit acts of domestic violence than those who attend rarely or not at all (Ellison et al., 1999). A follow-up study identified three pathways through which religious involvement may operate; namely, increasing levels of social integration and social support, reducing the likelihood of alcohol or substance abuse, and decreasing the risk of psychological problems (Ellison & Anderson, 2001). However, even after considering such indirect effects of religion through the use of sta- tistical controls, that study found that regular religious involvement still had a protec- tive effect against the perpetration of domestic violence by both men and women (Ellison & Anderson, 2001). In addition, that study showed that evidence of such pro- tective religious effects persisted regardless of whether domestic violence was measured using data from self reports or partner reports, which makes it difficult to attribute these observed religious effects to simple social desirability or other response bias." - Johnson Christopher G. Ellison, Jenny A. Trinitapoli, Kristin L. Anderson and Byron R. Race/Ethnicity, Religious Involvement, and Domestic Violence[9] See also: http://vaw.sagepub.com/cgi/content/abstract/13/11/1094

The religion of atheism/humanism

S.S. Atheism is taking on water

Western theism is in the doldrums, global atheism is declining and the liberalism which feeds secularism/atheism is laden with large and growing sums of sovereign debt.
