In summary, if God hadn't allowed mankind to reap the consequences of their disobedience, then no lessons would be learned.  We live in the world today with all the problems because mankind knows "a better way".  God's way was right.  Actually, if they didn't eat from it, Adam and Eve would never have died.  Yet God allowed them to choose for themselves.  Sadly, they did it before they had children.  Therefore, ALL children born to them had this poisonous bite from this fruit in them, namely sin (missing the mark of how God expects people), so they all died...we all die.  If Adam and Eve had a child first, THEN ate from it, only the partaker of the fruit would have died, and the others would have learned the lesson "Don't drink bottles with poison written on it" as such...but Satan destroyed the first couple, and ruined ALL of God's physical creation that he made in his image.  Why did he not step in?  Because if he was going to continue to just buffer Adam and Eve into a life of strict robotics, that isn't life.  Free will is a gift.  Unfortunately, Adam's choice was so selfish that he affected all others.  God's allowing him to do it was in fact a loving provision to allow him to choose to do what he wanted...a bit like the son who's 30 who decides he wants to now go and take up a heroin habit.  Sure, off he goes, but not in my house...hence, out of the garden they were cast.  The difference here though is that the heroin abuser is able to stop, as they weren't created perfect thanks to Adam's sin.  God is love, and as much as God can be all knowing, he is also loving, and allows things that he chooses NOT to think about, but put's faith in us.  You, me...all of us.

This is a question that has been stinging in my head for a while. Surely, God, being all knowing and omnipotent would have known Satan was in the garden, and he would have known with certainty that Eve was being tempted, but yet, he did nothing to prevent the fall of man. Yes, he warned Adam and Eve never to eat the fruit, yet they did, in spite of his will, but that is not the question being asked.

Thinking a bit more, why did God even place the tree in the Garden when he simply could have removed it or placed it somewhere else?

Please help, I am completly unsure what to think or believe. It pains me to think that an all-loving Lord stood by and watched as we gained original sin. John 13:40, 12 September 2008 (EDT)

Free Will

So you teach your children to read and write. You teach them how to cross the road. You even hold their hand and make sure they understand the dangers. You give them good food, and teach them poisons, and what not to touch. When they are now 30, are you still holding their hand crossing the road? Are you still telling them that the bottle with the word "poison" will kill them or make them sick? No, now they are responsible for their own actions as adults. They have brains, hopefully.

Well, God did the same. He created Adam. He told him "All this is good, but not that. Don't eat from that because you'll die"...a bit like telling your child "Don't drink THAT!!! It'll burn your mouth and may KILL YOU!!!"

So some nasty murderous creature tells your 30 year old child that it's actually a drug that will get them high and will make them feel like they are God, and will learn new things, and that you didn't want them to know because it was your little secret stash.

This is what Satan did. Actually, he told Eve to try it, who then gave it to Adam, who decided to also take of it.
