Matricide is the act of one deliberately murdering one's own mother. The etymology of the word is Latin, with mater meaning "mother", and the suffix -cide originating from caedere meaning "to kill".[1] White males are overwhelmingly likely to commit matricide, and the motive is usually physical and/or emotional abuse.[2] Committing matricide simultaneously breaks two of the Ten Commandments- disrespecting one's mother, and murder. Salvation from matricide is possible with sincere penance to God for these sins, though such penance is very unlikely.
