Ivan VI (23 August 1740 - 16th July 1764) was Tsar of Russia in 1741 until he was deposed in a coup that resulted in Elizabeth becoming tsar.
A coup was staged to release Ivan in 1764, however when they forced the guards to hand over Ivan, they murdered Ivan in accordance with Elizabeth’s rule of the “unnamed one” - Name given to Ivan after being deposed. That he was to be murdered if anyone attempted to free him.
He was murdered at the age of 23 in 1764.
Although being imprisoned for most of his life, it wasn’t proven that he was insane, however his mental equilibrium was damaged.
