Garret FitzGerald (9 February 1926 – 19 May 2011) was an Irish politician and statesman. Leader of the Fine Gael party from 1977 to 1987, he served two terms as Taoiseach (Prime Minister), from 30 June 1981 to 2 March 1982, and from 14 December 1982 to 10 March 1987. He had previously served for four years (1973-1977) as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
