Goole's port

Goole (19,500 inhabitants) is a port town in Yorkshire, England. It is within the traditional West Riding of that county. Administratively, it is part of the local authority area of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, following the abolition of Humberside in 1996, before which it was administered by West Riding County Council from 1888 to 1974. Goole is the furthest inland seaport in the United Kingdom, situated at the junction of the Knottingley & Goole Canal and the River Ouse. It was founded in 1826 when the canal was opened as a transhipment point between the canal system and the river, navigable by sea-going vessels, and established a trade built largely on the export of coal.
