East Lothian is one of Scotland's 32 local (unitary) council areas. It lies to the east of Edinburgh and Midlothian, and to the north of Borders. The administrative capital is Haddington (and it was formerly known as Haddingtonshire).
History
Originally inhabited by the primitive Gadgie People, East Lothian has since been overrun successively by Teuchters, Romans, Scots, Hibees, Saxons, and Normans. The Hun, though dominant in other parts of Scotland never really achieved a proper foothold in East Lothian.
