24 is a popular award-winning Fox network television series starring Kiefer Sutherland as a federal agent at the Los Angeles branch of the fictional CTU (Counter Terrorism Unit). The show is somewhat known for its controversial depiction of torture and for its unique "real-time" concept.
The series follows the adventures of Jack Bauer, an American counter-terrorism agent. Each episode of the series takes place over the course of an hour, with each season covering a 24-hour period of time. Bauer often finds himself embroiled in conflicts with terrorists, mercenaries, corrupt burreaucrats, and businessmen. He readily employs controversial techniques to accomplish his goals, including (but not limited to) torture and murder. Despite this, Bauer is shown to be a loving father, considerate husband, and good friend, giving the series a strong sense of right and wrong amidst a sea of moral gray.
