Classroom prayer

Classroom prayer is when students, either independently or led by adults, engage in religious prayer in a public school. This controversial issue arises in many forms, ranging from suggestion for moments of silence all the way to teacher-led mandatory denominational prayers. While opponents to the practice believe that the Establishment Clause prohibits congressionally-guided institutions like public schools from advocating prayer of any kind, most advocates for the practice argue for the power of prayer in everyday life and suggest that a voluntary or student-guided prayer would not infringe upon the religious freedom of anyone nor lead to an improper relationship between church and state.
