The Application Layer Gateway Service is a part of the Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 operating systems. This is a subcomponent of the Internet Connection Sharing/Internet Connection Firewall service. It works to open ports in the system's built-in firewall when they are being used by third-party programs on the local computer.[1]
