Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute

An Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute is usually an amendment that seeks to replace the entire text of a bill.[1] Passage of this type of amendment strikes out everything after the enacting clause and inserts a new version of the bill. An amendment in the nature of a substitute also refers to an amendment that replaces a large portion of the text of a bill.
