Obsessive thinking occurs when there is domination of one's thoughts and/or feelings by a persistent idea, image, desire, person, etc.[1] While persistence is certainly an admirable trait, obsessive thinking often causes a person to have an unhealthy focus in their life.
Until recently, unhealthy obsessional thinking (obsessions without any attendant overt compulsive behaviour) was considered very difficult to treat.[2] However, recent improvements in psychological therapy have improved the treatment outcomes for those who engage in obsessive ruminations.[3]
