ClamWin^™ is a free, open-source anti-virus program. It is based on the ClamAV^™ engine, which is also open-source. ClamWin is fairly popular, as it boasts 600,000 daily users worldwide.

Advantages

• Free of charge, freely usable, and open-source
• Scan scheduling
• Automatic updates
• Context (Right-click) menu integration
• Addin to Microsoft Outlook which scans e-mail attachments as they arrive
• A portable version is available

Disadvantages

• No real-time guard—regular scans are needed
• Some complain about poor detection rate, although their website boasts the opposite
• Slow scans
• Fewer virus definitions than some other options

Notes

• Although there is no real-time scanner, it is rumored that the next big release will include this feature.
