Saint Alban

Saint Alban lived in the 3rd and early 4th century. He was a pagan living in the Roman-British city of Verulamium and was converted to Christianity through the witness of a priest (supposedly named Amphibalus) he was sheltering. When the house was searched, Alban dressed in the priest's clothes and was executed in his place. He was the first recorded British martyr. Verulamium was renamed St. Albans in his honor.
