As of March 31, 2016 the share of the total United States national debt accrued under Democrat Nancy Pelosi's speakership (2007-2010) of the House of Representatives (27.5%) has been equalled by Republican speakers John Boehner and Paul Ryan (2011-2016). 27.5% of the United States national debt equals 5.3 trillion dollars. Rush Limbaugh asked how Republicans can run on the issue of fiscal conservativism when they are responsible for spending as much as the Democrats.
