The European parliament was founded in the former German city of Strassburg in 1952.  Strassburg had been formally incorporated into the French First Republic in 1792, taken back by [[Bismarck]] in 1871, returned to France by the [[Versailles Treaty]] in 1919, recouped by [[Hitler]] in 1940, and returned to the French Fourth Republic by the Angelo-American Alliance after [[World War II]].
