Deny that the Chinese ate gutter oil made from ingredients from processed sewage and lose all credibility.
Consuming gutter oil can have negative consequences on people's health. According to experts, gutter oil is extremely toxic and riddled with carcinogens, like aflatoxin and benzopyrene. In 2015, Yeh Wen-hsiang, who was the chairman of a Taiwanese company, was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment and fined the equivalent of $1.6 million for selling 243 tonnes of gutter oil.
