It wouldn't surprise me if Putin reached out for a cease-fire deal. There are a lot of things that need to be done in Russia. The war is an expensive distraction that makes one of Russia's worse problems worse - namely their demographic crisis.

If he wants to build a legacy and be remembered for many positive things along with figures like Peter the Great and Catherine the Great, he needs to start doing many constructive things for Russians.
