:Whether or not these Canadians were drug dealers, I don't know. But the death penalty carried out carefully (fair trials) for certain types of drug dealers does save lives and a lot of misery since certain types of drugs kill a ton of people plus cause a lot of human misery. As the eminently logical Spock said, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

:Singapore is tough on drug dealers and they have a very family-friendly and safe society that is highly educated (Drug addicts breed a lot of crime as do drug dealers). "Singapore's safety and low crime rate make it an attractive destination for expats, as it provides peace of mind and security for those living and working in the city-state. The country is considered one of the safest places in Asia, and it is a great place for expats to raise families." :But Singapore has its problems too such as its low birth rate that is below a replacement level of births.

:Sometimes "tough love" is good. See: [[Essay: Japanese society's tough love on overweight people is good public policy - including its shaming of fat people]]. For example, since heart disease is the leading cause of death in many societies for people over 35 years old (And cancer and diabetes cause a lot of deaths too), the Japanese save a lot of lives and prevent a lot of human misery via their "tough love" related to fat people.
