Section 7(a)(2) of the Act divides the responsibilities for protecting endangered species between the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Commerce.

The act has been seen as an attempt by liberals to take legitimate concerns(the threat to the national bird) and turn it into environmental hysteria that interferes with legitimate business interests and State's rights.
The act was instrumental in ensuring that many of God's creatures have not since died out.
