The Last Man (1826) is a novel of political science fiction that was initially considered to be the finest written by Mary Shelley, even better than her since-popular Frankenstein.
The novel mirrors the many personal tragedies suffered in the life of its author, which included the premature death of two of her infants, her husband, her sister, and a friend.[1]
