Pompeii

Pompeii was an ancient Roman city destroyed by the volcano Vesuvius. The ruins gained fame because the falling ash preserved the shapes of many of the occupants killed by the eruption. The empty spaces allowed for the creation of plaster casts of some of the former occupants.
