Charlie Melancon
Charles Joseph Melancon, known as Charlie Melancon (born October 3, 1947), is a Democratic former U.S. Representative from Louisiana's third congressional district. He served from 2005 to 2011. His committee assignments included Energy, Commerce, and Budget. He left the House to challenge, unsuccessfully, Republican U.S. Senator David Vitter, who subsequently lost the race for governor of Louisiana in 2015. Melancon was succeeded in the House by Republican Jeff Landry, but the district was abolished thrugh reapportionment effective January 2013.

Melancon received a bachelor's degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1987 to 1993. He is also a former aide to former U.S. Senator J. Bennett Johnston, Jr., a Louisiana Democrat who is now a lobbyist in Washington, D.C.
