John Nance Garner (1868 - 1967) was the first Vice President under Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was Vice President from 1933 to 1941. He opposed Franklin D. Roosevelt being nominated for a third term causing him not to run as his running mate in the 1940 election. He died at the age of 99.[1] He is famous for saying the vice presidency of the United States is "not worth a pitcher of warm spit."[2]
