The 1983 United States Embassy bombing (April 18, 1983) was a terrorist attack on a United States embassy compound in Beirut, Lebanon. The attack was propagated by a truck bomb, carrying close to one ton of explosives.[1] Sixty-three people, including the CIA's Middle East director, were killed, and 120 were injured.
The bombing was provoked by US intervention in the 1982 Lebanese Civil War. In 2003, a U.S. District court judge ruled that the attack was carried out by members of Hezbollah.[2]
