Chaim Soutine

Chaim Soutine (1894 - 1943) was a Lithuanian-born French expressionist painter of Jewish ancestry. Amedeo Modigliani painted his portrait in 1917.
Soutine moved to Paris in 1913 and stayed in France for the rest of his life. He found his inspiration in the work of the Expressionists, particularly Nolde and Kokoschka. His manner of painting is forceful: strong colors permeated by excited rhythms and uninhibited emotional power. [1]
