A lawsuit is an action or proceeding in a Civil Court. This term is used for a suit or action between two private parties in a court of law.
Specifically, a lawsuit is a legal action started by a plaintiff against a defendant based on a complaint that the defendant failed to perform a legal duty which resulted in harm to the plaintiff. For example, the creators of Delgo, Fathom Studios, were considering action against Fox for their movie Avatar.
