Hadrian's Wall

Hadrian's Wall was a wall built by the Romans across the centre of Britain in the 2nd century CE, to defend their northern frontier from Pictish incursions.
It stretched from Wallsend in the east to Bowness on Solway in the west, separating (approximately) England from Scotland, which was never conquered by the Romans, though a subsequent northward advance took them as far as the Antonine Wall.
