Special Effects are effects used in magic, motion pictures, or theater that dazzle or bewilder an audience. The use of special effects in Hollywood movies has increased dramatically over the past two decades. Howard Hughes pioneered several filming special effects in his movie, Hell's Angels. In theater, special effects usually consist of using a smoke machine to make smoke or using special lighting techniques and illusions. Magicians use special effects such as sleight of hand and collapsable boxes in their acts. The success of a special effect can be determined by how convincing the effect is.
