AlphaZero is the best computer chess player in the world, built using a self-teaching algorithm whereby it improves by playing itself over and over.

It reportedly taught itself how to play chess in less than four hours, and then defeated the computer chess champion Stockfish 8 in a 100-game match.<ref>https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/dec/07/alphazero-google-deepmind-ai-beats-champion-program-teaching-itself-to-play-four-hours<ref>

Since 1997 computer chess players have been able to defeat the best human players.
